January Re-cap

Well, another month has gone by, and so I figure I should post a few things about how Hooch has grown.
January saw Hooch have his first taste of Rice Cereal. He liked it right away, though his mom and dad were having some trouble keeping it in his mouth and in the bowl. We got the bowl too close to him and he hit it with his hand, sending rice cereal all over the floor, his dad, and the table. We have since improved our skills, and it stays in his mouth or on his bib.

Though the Super Bowl wasn't in January, it is still part of the last month (31 days). Hooch enjoyed his first Super Bowl, and surprisingly sat through most of it. He did miss the most exciting part because it was past his bed-time.

Hooch also likes to lounge in the recliners. Just like his dad and his grandpa, must be a boy thing.

He has also started to enjoy his bathtime more. He has learned how fun splashing is, and likes to float on his back. When he gets out we have to make sure to put him in his duck towel.

Hooch wanted to wear glasses, so his dad made some for him. He didn't seem to mind too much.

Hooch also sits up well, and can stay by himself for about a minute at a time. He still doesn't roll over, so we are thinking he might just skip that step. He also had his first ear infection (one in each ear), which wasn't as fun as it might sound. He goes back to the doctor the beginning of March for his 6 month appointment, so we will see how he is growing. He may even get the approval to eat some applesauce and other good stuff.

Las Vegas

I know I am a little late with this post, but I figure there are still some of you would would like to see some new pictures. We went to Las Vegas in January for Robyn's wedding (Robyn was one of Tracy's roommates at BYU). It was nice to see everyone, though it was more of a reunion for Tracy than it was for me. I still had a good time. It was a very nice day, especially since it wasn't too hot.

Hooch is actually smiling in a picture.

Hooch was having a good time in his stroller.

Hooch even made a new friend.

A Great Man

For the past week or so I have been thinking a lot about President Gordon B. Hinckley and I wanted to share some of my thoughts. Though my family knows that I have been less than enthusiastic about how much attention and focus people have given to his death (I will explain this more in a minute), I do want to pay tribute to our Prophet. What I said before in no way has to do with the response to given by the media or civic leaders, it has more to do with members of the church who I am in contact with. The focus has been on telling stories of meeting or seeing or going to listen to him speak, when that should not be the focus of our remembrance. He was much more than a man with a good sense of humor.

Leaving the negativity behind, I do have some positive thoughts to share. I have read and listened to nearly all of the tributes to President Hinckley, and would like to add my own. President Hinckley was a great example of Jesus Christ. As the prophet, he showed the world what being Christ-like really means. We are commanded to be examples of Christ and he was a great leader. Like Christ, President Hinckley commanded attention when he spoke, you could not help but listen to him. He taught of being kind to others, especially to those of other faiths and beliefs. Just as Christ did during his earthly ministry. He taught of the importance of the family and of individual worth. His urged all to "Stand for Something" and to Be Grateful, Be Smart, Be Involved, Be Clean, Be True, Be Positive, Be Humble, Be Still, and Be Prayerful. Like these teachings and many others, the underlying focus was on the Savior. His life too was an example of this, he was a dedicated servant of the Lord and showed the world what being a disciple of Christ is really about. We will miss his charisma and wit, but it is his example that we should remember. Jesus Christ continues to lead His church even after a prophet passes on, and so the example of what it is to be Christ-like will continue with President Thomas S. Monson. They are two different men, but the product is always the same, they lead by the example of what a being true disciple of Jesus Christ really means.

(this was written by Chad, just so everyone knows that it is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of my family, though it may)

Back to Normalcy

So my two sisters and their families came out for christmas, and we were all staying at my parent's house. To describe the situation, it was a little cramped. Christmas came and went and then they stayed until yesterday so they could be here for Amy's wedding. The wedding was on friday and went well despite a fierce winter storm. I started back to school today and am relieved that I no longer have to be the stay-at-home dad. I just can't handle it. It is definitely not a job for a dad. Last night was nice and quiet with everyone gone.

Hooch goes in for his 4 month appointment today, and I will update how that went with all of his statistics. For now, I will just put up a few more pictures of him.

Hooch's First Christmas

Well, we survived Hooch's first Christmas. He wasn't really into the whole thing mostly because he didn't really care. He was good with Santa, didn't cry (didn't smile either), he was pretty much indifferent to it all. As you can tell by the picture, he kind of has a "who is this and why is he holding me" face.

Not Quite One Month Later...

Yes, I know how long it has been since we have posted a blog, however, Tracy is too busy to post pictures (that and she isn't that great at it), and I have been engrossed in Law School finals for the past few weeks. So there is my excuse, take it for what it is (a good one) and enjoy the new pictures.

Hooch seems to get bigger by the day, and he is starting to laugh at some of the stuff we do. He particularly likes peek-a-boo, but only when you hide your entire body behind something and pop out at him. He isn't fooled when you hide your face with your hands. We have also found that we need to go through all his clothes on a daily basis to make sure he gets to wear everything at least once. A lot of clothes we thought would be too big for a long time are fitting him perfectly right now. He seems to have his mind set on being the biggest kid his age. He is getting close to his cousin Jill who is 2 months older than he is. We will also have to compare him to his other cousin Madyson (Katie, don't be mad if I didn't spell your child's name right) who is already one year old.
These pictures were of him laughing at his Grandma Bacchus. She was hiding on the other side of the counter and playing peek-a-boo with him. He was cracking up. In case you were wondering what his shirt says, it says 'Bikini Inspector'. Now, I wasn't very smart when I bought this for him because I didn't realize that he would be wearing it in December. But oh well, it would be him inspecting the bikinis not me, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

We also put his jumperoo thing together to see if he could fit in it. And, yes he does...barely. It says that his feet should touch the ground, and he can reach the ground, but just his tip-toes. He liked looking at the lights, but his amusement didn't last too long. We have put him in it a few more times since then and he is mastering the jumping part. He doesn't really jump, but his legs do spasm every now and then and it gives him a good scare. He is also learning to use his hands to hit and grab at the little toys.

We have had a good month, since the last blog, which has seen Thanksgiving come and go, and with it our 4 year anniversary. It is fun to see how our family has grown since then. And with the addition of Hooch, our lives have become more interesting. There is one more thing to look forward to when I finish school for the day. We treated ourselves to a nice dinner for our anniversary and then spent the night at a Bed and Breakfast in downtown Sacramento. Grandma and Grandpa Busath watched Hooch that night so we could enjoy a little quiet time. Though Tracy still woke up at 3:00am to feed the baby, only to realize she didn't have to. We then spent Thanksgiving with Tracy's family. I then started my final preparation, and just finished my last one of the semester tonight. Now I get to spend the next four weeks with Hooch, I will see if I can teach him a thing or two.

Last Saturday Tracy went with her whole family to Apple Hill to cut down a Christmas Tree, I was not there because I had to take two finals that day. Tracy decided she would bring home a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, because that is how Tracy is. Right now it is sitting in a Kool-Aid pitcher of water with a blue blanket around it as the tree skirt.

Sorry about the length of this blog, but there is a lot to write after one month. The last two pictures of Hooch are when his mom dressed him in a jean jacket, and when I bundled him up at Grandma Bacchus' house (the downstairs is cavernous and so doesn't stay very warm).
